How to effectively combat pigmentation spots and lack of radiance?

Pigment spots can appear at any age and affect all skin types. They are caused by a local overproduction of melanin - the pigment that gives your skin its color. These spots are located on the surface of the epidermis and can give the skin a speckled appearance with uneven complexion and it can be difficult to find the right routine to make them disappear or reduce their appearance.

Why does the skin produce more melanin?

The overproduction of melanin is a response of the skin to external aggressions. For instance, tanning is an overproduction of melanin that helps protect the skin from harmful sun rays. With age, if your skin is regularly exposed to the sun without adequate protection, brown spots can appear all over the body but are most often located on the face, hands and décolleté, which are the most exposed areas.

On the face, pigment spots can appear after a hormonal acne breakout, for instance. It is not uncommon to keep some spots on the skin if you have suffered from acne in your teenage years or if you have regular blemishes. These spots are made up of a mixture of melanin and dead cells and can be effectively faded with an adapted routine.

What routine should you adopt to get rid of pigmentation spots?

Exfoliate the skin weekly: We recommend integrating an AHA exfoliating face mask into your routine, which will gently remove dead cells from the skin without damaging the hydro-lipidic film of the skin and causing irritation, unlike grain scrubs.

Use a unifying treatment: Some ingredients such as white flowers are known for their unifying properties, we recommend using a unifying serum or moisturizer concentrated in unifying actives on a daily basis. Coupled with the use of an AHA exfoliant, it will help to fade the spots and unify the complexion in the long term.

Nourish and moisturize the skin daily: The skin needs to be nourished (supplied with lipids) and moisturized (supplied with water) to function properly. If your skin is dry or undernourished, cell regeneration will be slower because the skin will not have the necessary energy to produce new cells. Using a moisturizer and a fatty body like an oil every day, helps to facilitate cell renewal and have a brighter complexion.

Integrate a sun protection in your daily routine: Whatever the cause of your pigment spots, using sunscreen is essential and will help limit the appearance of new spots.
